The new proposals from the HSE will mean newly qualified staff with a childcare level 2 and 3 qualification must have an emergency paediatric first aid or full paediatric first aid certificate, however either of these courses would also benefit parents or guardians.

Statics indicated by ROSPA show the largest number of accidents happen in the living/dining room. However, the most serious accidents happen in the kitchen and on the stairs. Every year more than 67,000 children experience an accident in the kitchen - 43,000 of these are aged between 0-4 years; 58,000 children have accidents on the stairs.

Paediatric First Aid Course is held over 2 consecutive days.

Directed are child carers in any professional setting, Au pairs looking to enhance their individual skills and parents.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course is held over 1 day.

Directed at newly qualified Level 2/3 child care staff, au pairs and parents.
